2024 Move-Out Instructions

Spring 2024 Move-Out: Now through July 15

The move-out process for University Apartments, including College Park, University Park, University Place and Vandalia, will run through Monday, July 15. Current residents who have renewed their lease and are not transferring to one of these communities do not need to move; this process is only for students who are leaving their community.

Current residents who have renewed but are transferring to a different apartment; your property manager will be in touch with further instructions on when you can move.

While you are invited to begin moving out at your leisure, please keep in mind that your lease runs through July 15. Moving out prior to July 15 will not absolve you from paying June or July rent.

Residents must be moved out by noon on Monday, July 15.

MOVE-OUT PROCESS



CLEANING

To expedite the cleaning process, we have listed below the necessary steps you need to take to successfully move-out of your apartment and to avoid additional charges to your student account.

Please keep in mind what hours your leasing office is open so you can obtain a cart for move-out. We recommend you bring a dolly, cart, and/or any other items you expect to need to successfully pack your apartment.

Individual Space

  1. Remove any nails or tacks from walls (leave command strips)
  2. Wipe down furniture and mattress
  3. Run vacuum thoroughly on carpet
  4. Double check closet and drawers for possible items
  5. Make sure windows are closed 
  6. Make sure window blinds are closed
  7. Turn off light
  8. Please lock bedroom door

Common Space – These shared areas should be addressed by all roommates in the apartment.

  1. Remove any nails or tacks from walls (leave command strips)
  2. Wipe down all furniture
  3. Make sure windows are closed
  4. Make sure window blinds are closed
  5. Empty and clean refrigerator and freezer
  6. Clean stove/oven
  7. Wipe out cabinets
  8. Wipe down countertops in kitchen and bathroom
  9. Clean toilet
  10. Clean shower and remove old shower curtain
  11. Make sure washer door is open
  12. Make sure lint is removed from dryer
  13. Make sure all flooring has been cleaned
  14. Set thermostats on “auto” and 74 degrees
  15. Place TV remote on coffee table
  16. Turn off all lights
  17. Remove all trash from the apartment and dispose of properly
  18. Please make sure door locks behind you

It is always best for the resident to clean as to avoid any potential cleaning expenses. Please review a detailed list of cleaning and damage charges.

RETURN KEYS AND COMPLETE FORMS

All keys must be deposited in the designated drop boxes, located outside your leasing office, when move-out and cleaning is complete. For students who are not returning as a University Apartments resident in the fall, we would like to advise you to put in a forward address with USPS once your mail key has been returned. This will ensure all mail will be forwarded to your new address. 

Residents are not required to come to the leasing office to complete move-out. Instead, we ask that you fill out the online move-out form for your apartment community listed below.

WALKTHROUGHS

In-person walkthroughs with a property manager will not occur. Instead, apartments will be inspected 72 hours after the last tenant in the apartment has moved out. Residents will be notified of any damage or additional cleaning charges following inspection through their student MIX account.
